As the year winds down, the ASG is able to reflect on their progress over the past three quarters. To ensure they reach their maximum potential, they have decided to add an assistant position to help tie up any loose ends.
Natalie Eberts has been hired as the ASG Representative-at-Large. Eberts’ main responsibility will be assisting her ASG teammates. This includes taking records, acting as a Student Ambassador, and working with the ASG members on their ongoing projects.
“I appreciate the opportunity to be officially part of the ASG team, to get to work on projects from within the ASG structure, and to contribute my thoughts and idea to making ASG decisions to represent students,” said Eberts.
Eberts is a Running Start student and has been actively involved with a seemingly endless list of Bellevue College campus activities and programs.
Many may be familiar with Eberts’ extensive environmental advocacy work with the Student Science Association this year. She has played a major role in coordinating events such as the recent farmer’s market on campus, and has pushed to implement sustainable practices such as composting in the cafeteria.
Eberts first became involved with the ASG when she ran for the Environmental and Social Responsibility Representative in Spring 2009. Despite not winning the election, her passion for environmental issues led her to the Student Science Association. She has been the vice president for the past two quarters and has made a significant amount of headway in making the entire campus more eco-friendly.
Additionally, she serves as a voting member on the Student Environmental Sustainability Fee Committee.
“Even if I am working mostly with my ASG teammates, I am very engaged with students in my everyday life and in the other projects and groups I am involved with. I will also try to bring students and the ASG together and have students get involved, so that we’re all working together,” said Eberts.
Eberts participated in her first Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, April 21.
“Natalie did a great job. She stepped up and asked articulate and interesting questions in the beginning, which is not something all ASG members can do,” said ASG Chief Justice Bernard Ellouk.
This will be Eberts’ last quarter at BC.
“I plan to pursue environmental sustainability, social justice, and human rights through political activism and leadership and empowering people to change the cultural and societal status quo by helping start popular movements and campaigns,” said Eberts.
In the fall, she hopes to start earning a degree in Environmental and Interdisciplinary Studies at either Western or Evergreen.
Until then, Eberts will be committed to working closely with the ASG as well as BC students. If her past track record with Student Programs acts as any sort of indicator, students can expect the same level of dedication, professionalism, and success.
